Sir Philip Sidney

English Elizabethan poet (1554–1586). His double sestina "Ye Goatherd Gods" (Old Arcadia, 1580) is the earliest accomplished sestina in English; his sonnet sequence Astrophil and Stella shaped the form for Shakespeare's generation.
