Quiet Cave

A daughter is a quiet cave in a father’s chest, where light descends. Here— he seeks remedy for knotted shoulders and steaming skin for the droning within his skull. Here, his burden is spun and twisted into threads, then woven into a warm Yemeni cloak. Here, he uncovers blue bruises from pelted stone, a swollen lip from hurled debris, wounds on scars and damaged bone. This is where he sobs and where she mends with gentle hands and words of strength. When does a daughter become a mother? A daughter is the veiled part of her father that no one will ever know.
