Insane in Husseyn
I don’t trust the world to still be there,
So I close my eyes no more.
For the story of good and evil,
Is not unfamiliar to the living People.
My eyes have not seen his grace.
My ears have not heard his praise.
My soul has not been tamed by his presence.
Yet I close my eyes and cry for his essence.
I look onto the water I drink.
And of his light, I ponder.
How a whisper of his name can free a lonesome night into magnanimous wonder.
If Husseyn is not the lantern of guidance,
Illuminating instead of the sun’s radiance,
Why then does his name fill all that we cannot alone be?
Why then do his fires burn embers in the pages of all history?
I find him in my tears, or is it myself that I find?
For If ever a man could stand free,
In worship of the most high’s divinity,
Then the gates of paradise shall decree,
the love of Hussein is salvation’s admission fee.
But how easy it is then, to taste heavenly fruit and dine in prophetic presence.
Than to simply love he who is pure and offer a tear in reverence?
To make the lord’s presence in your heart clear is to offer your master a Husseyni tear.
And Ask about us.
For we will tell you,
about the pain in Zeynab’s eyes.
The heat of Tuff’s skies.
The arrow in Al Kafeel’s vision.
The burning thirst of innocent children.
The newborn slain in arrogant blasphemy.
The troubled heart of the lonely cavalry.
The armless body laying by the Euphrates.
The animalistic abuse of heaven’s most pious ladies.
Restless was Zeynab.
Who stood tall in the face of tyranny,
proclaiming through her tragedy,
a word of magnanimity,
setting standards for eternity,
Like none other than Ali:
“Then of my lord’s decree,
I see none but beauty!”
The soil of the bay,
soaked with angry blood to this day,
Awaits the promised avenger.
And till his time is made supreme,
I offer but a modest gesture.
I speak of devotion unbound by sanity.
Like Aabis throwing away his shield in the battle,
for no show of bravery.
But for servitude under worthy mastery…
and so his story echoes through the hearts of his lovers:
